I have just been reading a very interesting article in my local newspaper. It was all about the way in which guest houses are once again rising in popularity. I, for one, am not surprised to read this as I much prefer to stay in a guest house rather than a hotel as I will be explaining within the rest of this article.
The newspaper article suggested that the current financial difficulties are one of the reasons why people are becoming much more interested in staying at a guest house. Less and less people are able to afford a foreign holiday these days and this trend looks set to continue for many years to come. And even when people are choosing to stay at home, they are still attempting to holiday on a budget and this is where this form of accommodation can be of benefit as they tend to be very cheap to stay in, on average.
There are budget hotels however these tend to be very drab and dreary – and they also tend to be situated in a rather ugly location such as at motorway services.
I have always been a major fan of the guest house – for me they are just so more homely and cosy. The people who work there are far more friendly, in my experiences, than what you would normally expect to find at a hotel. This is no doubt due to the fact that they are family run businesses and therefore they try their hardest to make you welcome in the hope, of course, that you return. People who work in a hotel do so for quite a low wage and therefore have no desire to make your stay a pleasant one.
